 FAQs

  • AquaCrossings honors all pets. Dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, rats, snakes, fish, birds, axolotls, pocket pets, and exotic animals can all be honored through this water-based alternative to pet cremation.

  • AquaCrossings offers the option to drop your pet off at our facility, or a pick up can be scheduled from your home at a time most convenient for you. Please fill out our pick up form, or contact us directly so we can assist you. We recommend wrapping your baby in a towel or blanket with an absorbent pad under them if possible. Move them to a safe, cool area if they cannot be transported to an aftercare center right away.

  • Alkaline hydrolysis (aquamation) was actually patented back in 1888 and the process hasn’t changed much since then. It is a safe and widely used method of tissue disposition for many medical and educational facilities. The MAYO Research Clinic, Duke University, UCLA, and the U.S. Government are among those using the technology. Aquamation is becoming more popular as consumers are becoming more and more aware of the impacts of flame based cremation.

  • We choose to offer aquamation because it is the eco-friendly option when choosing how to handle pet end of life. We believe that honoring your pet at every stage of life is important, and we know that aquamation is a gentler and environmentally friendly alternative to flame based cremation. Aquamation produces no carbon dioxide emissions, provides families with 20% more remains, and burns no fossil fuels in its process.

  • Aquamation allows pets to be processed in separate containers that ensure there is absolutely no commingling of remains. AquaCrossings uses a state of the art tracking software that assigns your pet a unique tracking number. This tracking number will follow them through every step of the process, and their location through the process will constantly be updated and tracked.

  • Yes, the water-based process uses a solution of 95% water and 5% alkali (a combination of sodium and potassium hydroxide). The alkalis used in this process are the same alkalis used in biodiesel production, common cosmetic products, body washes, shaving creams and even in food preparation. At the end of the process, the chemical has been completely consumed, neutralized and no longer remains in the water solution.

  • We want to personally say that we are sorry for your loss - losing a pet is unlike any other loss. Pets are there for us through the most difficult time and love us unconditionally. Included in every private cremation is a grief guide, as well as support groups and contacts to get you through this difficult time. If you have selected a group cremation and need support, we are here for you and will provide you with our grieving resources. Never hesitate to give us a call if you are looking for support.
