Why Water Over Fire

Aquamation is a water-based alternative to pet cremation also known as alkaline hydrolysis, that produces no harmful greenhouse gas emissions and burns no fossil fuels.

Aquamation uses warm water, time and alkali to mimic what happens in nature to handle end of life.

In nature, this process can take years, but with the advancement in the aquamation technology, this process now takes less than 20 hours.

At AquaCrossings, our team has gone through extensive training to learn how to uphold our highest standards to honor your pet.

Our team will gently place your pet’s body into the aquamation chamber. Once the machine is started, warm water will circulate through the machine for 20 hours. After the cycle is complete, the mineral components of your pet and nutrient rich effluent will remain. By choosing private aquamation, the mineral remains of only your pet’s bone will be returned to you and placed in an urn. The nutrient-rich and environmentally safe effluent will be returned to the environment.

How does fire cremation pollute the environment?

National Geographic estimates that fire based cremations in the U.S. account for about 360,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year. The average cremation emits 540 lbs of harmful greenhouse gas emissions which equates to the amount of CO2 produced by driving around Phoenix for 700 miles. Traditional fire based cremation facilities burn the pet in a plastic bag that will release even more harmful emissions into the earth.

On top of the CO2 produced by fire based cremation harmful chemicals are released including dioxins, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, formaldehyde, mercury and nickel. By choosing water based cremation there are no fossil fuels burned and no harmful greenhouse gases emitted. Aquamation is the eco-friendly solution to handle your pet’s end of life in the Phoenix valley. Compared to traditional flame based cremation, aquamation reduces the carbon footprint by consuming less energy and producing no carbon dioxide honoring your pet and the earth.

Benefits of Aquamation

  • No burning of fossil fuels or direct emissions of harmful greenhouse gases

  • More gentle than flame-based cremation

  • Over 90% energy savings when compared to flame-based cremation

  • 20% more ashes returned to family
